Japan's consumption tax exemption requires non-resident foreigners to present their original passport and spend at least 5,000 yen per day at the same store, with consumables subject to a 500,000 yen cap and sealed packaging requirements. Starting November 1, 2026, the entire system switches to a "refund method," so store procedures will differ depending on whether your departure date is before October or after November.
