Long Weekend Haus DDP: Dongdaemun Transfers and Night View Stay

Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station is where Seoul Subway Lines 2, 4 and 5 meet, and Exit 2, which connects directly to DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), is the shared exit for all three lines.
The Line 2 to Line 4 transfer connects directly within the same station, while the Line 2 to Line 5 transfer requires passing through the entire Line 4 platform, so it is shorter to transfer one stop away at Euljiro 4(sa)-ga Station.
Seoul Metro Line 2
Line 2 is a circular line that passes through Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station, and Exit 2, close to the DDP Design Lab's first floor entrance and the entrance to Dongdaemun History and Culture Park, is the shared exit for Lines 2, 4 and 5 (ddp.or.kr transportation information, confirmed 2026-09-24).
If you are taking Line 2 to see the DDP night view, coming out through Exit 2 makes it easy to walk to Eoulmadang Square. Moving just one stop toward Euljiro 4(sa)-ga Station brings you to a transfer station where you can switch directly to Line 5 without passing through Line 4.

The aggregated rating on Trip.com is 9.5 out of 10 (66 reviews, confirmed 2026-09-14), and reviews on the same page mention that the location near Exit 5 of Line 5 made it convenient to reach from the airport, and that walking around Dongdaemun at night was enjoyable.

Line 4 stops at Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station together with Lines 2 and 5, and the Line 2 to Line 4 transfer passageway remained open without closure even during the 2018 Line 5 section construction (Seoul City Naesonane Seoul notice, confirmed 2026-09-24).
The Line 4 and Line 5 platforms share the same single island platform with two tracks structure, and passengers transferring to Line 4 at this station simply need to follow the Line 2 to Line 4 direction signs.

Line 5 meets Lines 2 and 4 at this station, but a direct Line 2 to Line 5 transfer requires passing through the entire Line 4 platform, making the distance long (Seoul City Information Communication Plaza notice, confirmed 2026-09-24).
If you plan to transfer between Lines 2 and 5, transferring at Euljiro 4(sa)-ga Station, one stop away, is shorter and does not increase the number of transfers. On the other hand, the Line 4 to Line 5 transfer is unique to this station within the entire metropolitan subway network.

The Line 5 transfer passageway at Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station was closed starting July 18, 2018 for aging escalator replacement work, then reopened ahead of schedule on September 21 of that year (Seoul City transportation notice, confirmed 2026-09-24).
A survey before the construction found that the average daily number of transferring passengers at this station on weekdays was about 290,000, of which about 40,000 were Line 2 to Line 5 transfers and about 83,000 were Line 4 to Line 5 transfers. During the construction period, the Line 4 to Line 5 transfer route was temporarily removed from subway maps and route guidance apps to reduce confusion.
